Objective Aesthetics edited this topic ages ago. The shutter count is only important really if someone sells a camera on ebay or somewhere like that and claims its new, then yes it would be a good way of clarifying just how new the camera actually is or how much that battered looking camera has actually been battered, but that is the only situation where it matters. So the file numbers are not accurate any more. It just carried on where my A100 left off, meaning it was not long before I 'clocked' it, and it re-set to 0. I had the same issue when I first started shooting with my A700. I've had my counter reset on my old A-100 and A-700, after some firmware updates and after servicing by Sony on both cameras. Here's an older thread on the same topic. I think it was from my old memory card from my A100. My number on my A900 jumped from 2000 something to 9000 something when I switched cards. My A100 never got reset either after firmware upgrades. The camera will start at the next number. For those that want to keep the sequence, after the update, they insert a memory card that has photos on it, and continue to shoot. Photobuf - My camera always reset after a firmware update. However, there is no accurate way of knowing the number of shutter actuations, and your files reading DSC05800 could mean 5800 actuations, 15,800 actuations 25,800 actuations and so-on, as the value is re-set every 9,999 shots. My shots never re-set after a firmware upgrade, and between my A100 and A700, I have done my fair share. If I only knew this shutter count matters, then I should have just bought brand new. Also note that the file number wraps around at 9999, even though there may be a leading zero to indicate that it goes to 99999 (it doesn't). I don't know of a better way than the (unreliable) file number. So, just wanted to check if there's any possibility. Mine is still on it's way but, this was a doubt I had previously and while I was selling my A200, this was one question that arose. Also if you update the firmware, it will also go back to the beginning. Once the DSC # reaches the max, it just goes back and starts all over again. maybe someone else has a better answer for you though.Īs mentioned on a Sony it's difficult, not sure how they do it. most people use the file numbers to figure it out, but once it's reset, i'm not sure it's possible. I'm not sure that there -is- a way to do that. But what about before firmware upgrade? I got mine with V4 already. I just got my a700 and the images are being saved as DSC05800, so I'm just guessing 5800 shots already. did you got your a700 upgrade? Yeah I need to know how to look for shutter count too.
